Megafortress:
Adversary
SOT008 - digital/cassette - Edition of 50 - Oct 4 2024
Purchase at Bandcamp
Megafortress returns from a ten year absence with Adversary, an album of searing wind synth solos, clattering drum machines, and an air of giddy foreboding.
Each song hits like a swarm of chittering insects come to devour the landscape. Real and synthetic wind instruments rub against distorted polyrhythmic machine beats, acid-etched guitars, and lurching bass.
The songs recall ‘Rated-X’-era Miles Davis and Joe Zawinul’s pseudo-world music, mixed in an alien simulacrum of Chicago footwork. It is the sound of an unholy ritual performed by an adversarial priest.
Megafortress is the work of New York musician Bill Gillim. Started in 2008 as a series of imaginary field recordings, Megafortress has released albums on Curatorial Club, Software/Mexican Summer, and Driftless Recordings.
